Just Call Them iPicasso
In my daily commute, I usually open the ride with a brief glance at the sports section to see just how my Mets blew the previous night’s game and, with the aid of some slow jazz and classical beats, let my iPod lull me to sleep before the work day begins. If I have the energy, I will bullshit with the girl who always sits in the seat across the aisle and I suspect may be my stalker (this has to be the high point of her day). Never once have I considered putting my brain to work at such an early hour like some of the more ambitious commuters who explore the depths of their creativity each morning with their stunning iPhone artwork.

The pictures I will share with you below were made through the “Brushes” application, a $4.99 add-on from the innovative mind of Steve Sprang that is now available to all iPhone users. Using just their fingers to fill the touchscreen canvas, iPhone artists have a full digital toolkit at their disposal including a wide range of brushes, colors, and shadowing options. Some take 10-15 minutes to throw a sketch together, while others spend painstaking hours perfecting their mini phone masterpieces. “Brushes” was thrust into the spotlight when The New Yorker magazine placed an iPhone drawing by Jorge Columbo on the cover of their June 1, 2009 edition.

Brushes comes complete with a built-in Web server to download your favorite paintings from your iPhone to your desktop and will soon be compatible will all PCs. As I begin to realize just how much of a waste of life I am in the morning, I will keep you occupied with some more impressive iPhone treasures for your viewing pleasure… enjoy:
