That’s right, the Internet radio service that recommends songs to you now recommends comedic bits to you, too. Pandora has compiled a library of over 10,000 jokes and clips from more than 700 comedians in what they call the Comedy Genome Project. College students, prepare to get your laugh on!
This is no new idea, though. Pandora founder Tim Westergren said “Pandora is about creating a great, personalized radio experience. Comedy is a natural part of that experience, and it’s something our listeners have been asking us to deliver for a while. We are delighted to now be able to give people a mix of familiar and new comic material that they’ll love to listen to.”
So the company went to work organizing the bits by content, style, and delivery. This allows for the recommendation system and streaming stations that Pandora is known for. So you can start with a specific comedian, type of comedy, or even a specific joke, and then your chosen station will send you a stream of audio files that it thinks best suit your tastes.
Famous comedians like George Carlin, Mitch Hedberg, Cheech & Chong, and Chris Rock are already available on the service, with more being added constantly. You may be thinking “what’s going to get college students to listen?” Well, everyone loves to laugh, but listening to the same comedian over and over can get kind of stale. Pandora will help you find new comedians with similar delivery styles or joke themes, and provide you with endless amounts of laughter in your moments of extreme stress. Take a break from studying for finals and procrastinate with some humor! It’s the best medicine.
