I’ll admit it; I am without a doubt no Julia Child. However that doesn’t stop me from dabbling in the kitchen from time to time. A few weeks ago I was introduced to the cookbook Hungry Girl by Lisa Lillien and it has changed the way I look at cooking.

Hungry Girl is a cookbook designed for girls like us. Girls who are looking for easy recipes that are not only tasty but diet friendly. On the front cover of the book it reads “Recipes and Survival Strategies for Guilt-Free Eating in the Real World” and that is exactly what this book is all about.

The cookbook starts off with a brief tutorial perfect for any beginner. Lisa understands exactly what we want and delivers. The meals are easy to make, quick, delicious and low in the fat and high in the protein and fiber.

There is something for everyone in this book. For breakfast I’d recommend her “cinnaonlicious French toast” with three slices having only 195 calories, 1 gram of fat, 8 grams of fiber and 19 grams of protein.

Or maybe your feeling her “veggie-friendly Asian lettuce wraps” with only 220 calories, 3.5 grams of fat, 8 grams of fiber and 21 grams of protein.

In the mood for pizza? How about her “perfect pepperoni pizzas” with 190 calories, 3 grams of fat, 6.5 grams of fiber and 20 grams of protein. Plus, Lisa explains how you can cut the calories and fat when you eat pizza outside of your kitchen.

Time for desert, no problem. Try her “strawberry cheesecake minis” with 65 calories, 1 gram of fat, and 7 grams of protein. Yummm!

Plus, in the back of the book Lisa includes “survival guides”. These chapters explain what to order and what not to older when you are eating any type of cuisine. The reason why I love her book so much is because Lisa is realistic in her advice. She understands her audience and our lifestyles and makes it easy for us to safely diet. So move over skinny bitch, there is a new girl in the kitchen!

Happy cooking!
