The Campus Socialite “Kicks” it at Sneaker Con
One luxury of writing for a renowned college blog like The Campus Socialite is our access to some major events that deserve publicity and recognition throughout the campus community. This past Saturday offered up an opportunity to rub elbows with the biggest names in the sneaker and apparel world and, in true socialite style, we made the most of our time in the spotlight. Playing host to 40 vendors equipped with the most exclusive kicks under the sun, Sneaker Con is paradise for the footwear fiend. We were thrilled to take part in the king of sneaker and clothing shows and felt that it was our duty to share with you an exclusive look at some of the hottest styles from the top dogs in the footwear game. Enjoy our first hand look at Sneaker Con.
As the team and I descended upon the Sneaker Con trading floor on 151 Sullivan Street in NYC’s SoHo, it was hard to keep our jaws off the floor in sheer amazement of the volume of sexy sneakers from all different brands and eras. Once I gathered myself, I devised a strategy so I could get around to all the vendors and at take a look at each of their goodies – whether is was sneakers or uniquely designed t-shirts. In a nutshell, my plan of attack required me to do my best Adrian Peterson impersonation and just barrel through the hordes of fellow sneaker fanatics until I had seen my fill of footwear. Fortunately, I had little problem making my rounds and met dozens of folks that were so passionate about sneakers that it became clear to me that Sneaker Con was their Super Bowl.

Sponsored by the big fish in the sneaker and clothing world – Freshness, Osneaker, Sneaker News, adidas, Citysole, illRoots, NiceKicks.com, and Nitrolicious, Sneaker Con attracted over 1,500 patrons to the heart of the big city and no one left empty-handed. Whether it was that elusive pair of Air Max ‘95s that you scoured the Internet for months to find, a vintage t-shirt that you had to have right there, or a throwback hat from the Jordan Era NBA – it was all for the taking at Sneaker Con. We even saw the impact of social networking on the sneaker trade as we made friends with the guys from SneakerListing, a free search-based classifieds application that allows collectors to buy and sell sneakers.

The Campus Socialite team was lucky enough to hear from some true sneaker heads who went to great lengths to make their presence felt at Sneaker Con. The people from WindyCitySole.com are so dedicated to their kicks that they drove over 12 hours from Chicago to get to NYC and display their wide selection of Nikes. Other vendors, like Bloodlinefresh Classics, let it all hang out with their rare t-shirt designs inspired by hip-hop culture, sneaker fashion, graffiti art, and social movements. Regardless of what table you turned to, there was no denying a distinctive, one of a kind feel that each vendor brought to Sneaker Con.
Our senses were also delighted by the Kaws Collection showcase presented by Toy Tokyo. Set up right next to DJ Leo Rodri & Complex were several rare, never before seen Toy Tokyo pieces that had all attendees stopping dead in their tracks to take a gander behind the velvet rope. When it all was said and done, Sneaker Con left our heads spinning and our feet satisfied. None of it would be possible without the hard work of the following leaders in the sneaker and apparel industry: Freshness, Osneaker, Sneaker News, adidas, Citysole, illRoots, NiceKicks.com, Nitrolicious, SneakerListing, WindyCitySole.com, Bloodlinefresh Classics, KicksFinder.com, Bridge Footwear, Belchez, Fresh Kidz, Platform NYC, Gentlemen Know, and SneakerBum.com.
Keep an eye out for all of these vendors, as they will be bringing fire to a foot near year you all year long.
