Nintendo is on the forefront of reviving classic style games followed not so far behind by Sony and Microsoft’s with their respective download services. Super Mario Galaxy 2 recently came out and this game plays like Super Mario 64 on a serious mushroom trip (no pun intended). Other Wii titles like New Super Mario Bros. Wii, A Boy and His Blob, and Mario Kart had near identical game play to their original counter parts. There’s no denying this trend of throwback classics is pulling gamers in who left their controllers behind when the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo became obsolete. If New Super Mario Bros. Wii didn’t give you a reason to dive back in, there’s a game just around the bend for you Sega fan boys:

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is a brand new game in the retro series we all loved on Sega Genesis. Rushing through 2D levels at light speed never looked so good as all character models will actually be in 3D (just like in New Super Mario Bros Wii). Run, jump, collect rings, and take down the evil Doctor Robotnik. Sonic The Hedgehog 4 will be released as a download for the Wii, Xbox360 and Playstation and is set to be released toward the end of the year.
