Campus Socialites- gather around the keg while I tell you the tale of old Cesar Chavez, the man who boycotted grapes to ensure better working conditions for farm workers. Chavez was a civil rights activist by day who founded the National Farm Workers Association and by night slayed all Sorority girls against not putting out on the first night. Ok I exaggerated a little bit on that one, but schools in California have off tomorrow because of Chavez’s Grape Boycott and the spot to party is Chico State. If you’re not familiar with Chico State, it’s a mid sized school (around 17,000) out in Cali that epitomizes one of the biggest shit-show party scenes you will ever see. If you’re down with all night ragers, weekly bonfires thanks to couches from house parties, and more access to liquor in a 2 mile radius than any other spot in the country, Chico State is the spot to be this week. Check out some videos from Chico after the jump.

2008 Republican presidential nominee John McCain and his wife, Cindy McCain seem to not being seeing eye to eye these days after she recently decided to pose for an advertisement endorsing gay marriage advocates in California.  The photo (as seen below) shows Mrs. McCain with duct tape across her mouth and ”NOH8” written on one cheek. NOH8 is a gay rights group challenging Proposition 8, which was passed by Californian voters in 2008 banning same-sex marriage.

On Tuesday, December 1st, Chico experienced a bit of a tragedy when the local Tres Hombres and Mr. Pickles were struck by disaster.  An electrical fire was started in the back of the Tres Hombres due to dry wood along the kitchen walls, which had the adjacent buildings burning from the inside out.  The blaze was first spotted by a Chico Police Officer at 2:40 am, and within the hour 14 fire engines from Chico, Oroville, Paradise, and Cal Fire-Butte joined in the battle to tame the flames.  With preliminary damages estimated at just under $1 million, it doesn’t look like either restaurant will be open again for awhile.

With a big name coming to Chico, California this month, Snoop Dogg is making the long trip up north on the 23rd to entertain the college community right as students begin returning for their spring semester.  He is known far and wide for his presence in the hip-hop scene, and for being one of producer Dr. Dre’s most notable protégés, but with ticket prices set at $40.00, is this West Coast icon worth dishing out the cash to see?
