For those of you who missed out, Sunday marked one of the most important nights to Hollywood’s starlites who grace the presence of your living rooms each week. Jimmy Fallon did a fabulous job hosting the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards (please see the MTV VMA’s from 2002) and the red carpet was fabulous as ever. So without further ado here are the highlights…

Don’t be a Slob, Put Yourself Together

Why you should do yourself and those around you the favor of getting ready in the morning…

By Chelsea Weintraub (Quinnipiac University)

I don’t do 8 A.M.’s because I take too long to get ready. I learned that lesson my freshman year the hard way and have never scheduled a class before 9 A.M. again. I’m not saying you should get all dolled up runway-style for Sociology 101, but at least have some human decency. Whether you like it or not, there are some things that every girl should do before leaving her dorm and jetting off to class in the morning. I’m not talking the obvious brush your teeth and throw on a clean bra. I mean little niceties that go a long way. You never know who you’re going to bump into on your first day of classes, so why not be prepared? You may end up in a class with a professor who can write you a great recommendation letter in the future to help you score your dream internship, or even the cutest guy on campus. And let’s face it- you’re not going to turn either of their heads if you look like a slob. Here are a few quick tips that will help put you at the head of your class (and not to mention be one of the prettiest).

Fab footwear Debuting This September

By: Chelsea Weintraub (Quinnipiac University)

If there’s one wardrobe staple more important than the perfect fall sweater, it’s a new pair of shoes. Let’s face it- women judge other women on their accessories. If you have an eye for detail, you’re analyzing every girl’s shoes, handbags, jewelry, and belts as you pass them by on your way to class. It’s often more stressful planning the perfect outfit for girls’ night out than what to wear for a first date. How do you accessorize without trying too hard for a night of drinks with your best friends? I like to use a different approach and build a look around what’s on my feet. This fall, we see the comeback of some oldies but goodies. I hope you’re all as excited as I am to flip through the September Issues (the most anticipated issue of any fashion publication’s year… and they’re DEFINITELY bigger than ever. This month’s VOGUE is 3 lbs alone!) and see how to reintroduce some old favorites and style them with the modern looks of today. The best footwear for the season is something you’ve probably tried before, and I can assure you it is more fabulous than ever.

Animal Wooly Balls vs. Real Balls: This Week’s Recap on Project Runway

This week we got to watch as the designers embarked on the traditionally feared “unconventional challenge.” My favorite version was back in Season 1 when the designers were brought to the grocery store and had to make their garments out of things found there (anyone remember that fabulous dress made out of corn husks?!). Tim Gunn met up with the designers at “Party Glitter,” a party supplies store where the designers were instructed to steer away from any materials correlating to a fabric. Somehow Casanova did not understand the point of this and was spotted two minutes later picking out table clothes and plush puppies?! Right. I quote “We are not making a piñata, we are making a dress.”

Calling all Fashionistas- The BEST of Fall Bags You’ll Tote-ally Go Crazy For

I don’t know about you, but I find backpacks to be insanely… hideous. They are one of those items that should have been left behind with the worst of 90’s fashion. I’m sure they’re great for hiking, but when I come to think of it, I never understood the backpack. It’s bad for your back and schools across America began outlawing them in its hallways. It was around the new millennium that messenger bags became all the rage and I abandoned my L.L. Bean for something a little more stylish. At the latter part of my high school career, oversized bags became staples in every girl’s wardrobe. I’m not talking the latest Michael Kors carryall creation, but rather a cross between the average purse and your favorite weekender bag [Sidebar: an ex once exclaimed over lunch that I could fit a week’s worth of clothes in my first oversized purse by Liz Claiborne. I begged to differ and proved him wrong once getting into the realities of what girls pack for a week’s worth of time away]. With classes resuming within the next month, I bring to you some of the best of what fall has to offer your accessory collections so you can ditch your North Face Jesters (it’s what’s best for all of us, my dears).

Fired Assistants, D.C.’s Socialites, and Billboard Design Catastrophes

On Tuesday night, the third season of The Rachel Zoe Project premiered on Bravo. No time was wasted as they jumped right into Taylor Jacobson’s, Rachel’s ex-assistant, dismissal. Taylor is best known for her bitchy outbursts, impoliteness, and jealousy towards the loveable Brad. I will not miss her annoying, standard awful LA voice (sorry, but ever notice how girls from LA have a tendency to drag out every word? At least the ones on reality TV. Please see Kourtney Kardashian) or her sunglasses. No need to worry, because this storyline will play out over the course of the season. I was loving Rachel and Brad style the stunning Demi Moore for her Harper’s Bazaar cover shoot. Rachel couldn’t manage to walk herself down to the beach in her six-pound day boots to watch as Demi posed alongside a giraffe while donning the infamous Alexander McQueen armadillo platforms (one of the underlying messages of this episode was that no respectable woman owns flats because she has a wide array of “day heels.”). I look forward to the rest of the stolen showroom samples to return disheveled from Ms. Jacobson herself, to see how Rachel carries on without her unworthy assistant, and most of all, how the stars turn out at the Golden Globes. I’m even more excited to see Rachel’s own outfits (she wore some of the BEST Marc Jacobs pieces in the first episode) and did anyone see her cute bed pillows?!

“Can you come in here? …that’s all.”

Ah, yes, the fashion faux pas. While they make people watching that much more fascinating, please be sure you never fall victim to some of the worst fashion trends in history. Just because designers are making them and stores are carrying them does not make it acceptable for you to purchase. Here is a countdown of the items you should not have in your closet… and if you do, save yourself the embarrassment and burn it IMMEDIATELY.

Make A Statement With Your Summer Work Attire

no thumb

By: Chelsea Weintraub (Quinnipiac University)

For some of us, summer work attire primarily consists of swimsuits, shorts and flip flops. For the rest of us who have abandoned our teenage jobs as camp counselors and life guards, we are dominated by corporate America’s old-school protocol. No open toed shoes. No jeans. No cleavage. Casual Fridays don’t exist, either. Okay. So that basically leaves a three-piece suit as our only acceptable option. Dilemma – the never-ending heat wave in Manhattan does not seem to have an end-date any time soon. While I have been stressed out scouring for the perfect summer staples to ease my mornings when raiding my closet for the perfect outfit, I have yet to be defeated. I share with you my faves to wear to work. Who knew the office could be so fashionable?
