hash-bash

Last weekend was the 40th anniversary of Ann Arbor’s Hash Bash Festival. For those of you who don’t know, Hash Bash is a gathering of Michigan’s finest medical marijuana activists, proponents, and smokers. The day consists of speakers, live music, vendors (usually, but this year the Ann Arbor City Administrator banned all vending…the dick), rallying, and of course, lots of delicious buds – all conveniently centered around University of Michigan’s Diag. The event takes place at noon on the first Saturday in April every year. But for what reason, exactly? You’re about to find out.

Hoodie Allen Concert Review

By Lisa Dubow

Hoodie Allen
While winter in Ann Arbor, Michigan is notoriously harsh, Hoodie Allen managed to heat up the night with his captivating beats and high energy on stage.  A few hundred University of Michigan students braved the 12-degree weather to be a part of the scene at Vintage, a venue located on the outskirts of campus characterized by its small, intimate nature and magnetic atmosphere.  With unadorned brick walls and a string of light bulbs lining the stage, Vintage’s simple, yet endearing setup masterfully framed Hoodie Allen as he performed his fast-paced and skillfully crafted anthems.

Zingerman’s: The Ann Arbor Deli A-Maze-s the Campus Socialite

no thumb

Become a fan of Rock Comedian Brian Smith on Facebook.

It’s noon on Friday, and we’ve been on tour for three weeks now. You know when you wake up with that feeling in your stomach where you don’t know if you’re sick from drinking too much, or if it’s your empty stomach imploring you to feed it immediately? Well, that was the feeling I felt waking up in my Ann Arbor, MI hotel room. Since I hadn’t eaten in fourteen hours, I determined food was the best remedy. Several people from Michigan, along with friends of mine who attended the university told me about a little deli called Zingerman’s. Well naturally I checked it out with an incredibly empty stomach, and what I found was much more than a deli. I was introduced to an experience…

So if you’re a Campus Socialite, then you’ve already heard of the Blitz & Beatz Tour. And if you haven’t, then perhaps you don’t belong here, or you should start reading more of these blog posts. If you know the deal then you know that our very own Rock Comedian Brian Smith is not only on the tour, but also recently starred in the music video for “I Get Naked At the Spa” , an aptly-named song focused on exposing (quite literally) and breaking down the social anxieties that exist within the spa community.

The Campus Socialite Travels Abroad – "TRIP To Amsterdam"

no thumb

By: Barry Fisher (University of Michigan)

Chapter 2

This past weekend I went on my first trip from Barcelona. When it came time for my friends and I to decide on where we should travel to for our first trip there was really only one option… AMSTERDAM. Come on, anyone in the world who smokes weed hopes to visit this wonderful city ever since they sparked their first joint. Let me tell you, Amsterdam definitely lives up to the hype; it’s like Disney World for college kids. There are endless amounts of coffee shops where you can purchase various types of grass and you’re more than welcome to blaze inside. The cultural differences really are remarkable. They have no need to pop bottles on a Saturday night because the coffee shops bump techno while everyone gets high as balls. I gotta admit it was a nice change of pace.

The Campus Socialite's Semester Abroad: "The Arrival"

no thumb

By: Barry Fisher (University of Michigan)

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Barry Fisher and I’m your typical immature, disrespectful, entertaining junior in college. I’m about to go abroad to Barcelona and the rest is fucking history…

Chapter 1

Well if I couldn’t compose myself in my own country then I definitely can’t overseas. It is absolutely incredible that studying abroad is even legal. Think of how wild college is and then add a language barrier, a terrible exchange rate, no drinking laws, and absolutely no responsibility. There’s really only one word to describe it…EPIC.
