Chrystian Drops His First Single “Get It In”…Title To Live By

Chrystian_premiere

Our boy Chrystian just dropped his first single, “Get It In” off his upcoming debut album Genesis. As the summer approaches this title is extremely fitting, and the video proves this has the potential to be a club banger.

MTV boasts, “Columbus, Ohio, native Chrystian may be the next Usher, guys. And no, we’re not exaggerating even a little…the kid can sing, dance, write, and most importantly, he’s got swagger on a million trillion…Chrystian is poised to become the next big thing.” I’m normally not a huge fan of MTV (except Fantasy Factory which is kick ass) but I have to agree with them on this one.

“Get It In” will be available on May 22nd and tour dates will be announced soon.

Exclusive Ben Burgess Album Download… Breakout Artist of Summer 2012

ben burges cover

After killing it at this year’s SXSW, Texas born singer/songwriter Ben Burgess recently released the official video for his single, “Party Like a Pornstar.” The pool-side clip is Burgess’ debut video and features lots of pretty girls and fake mustaches… you know, what dreams are made of.

Ben Burgess is a cross between rap and rock. He’s the epitome of a fresh new artist. Burgess describes his mix tape as, “Swampy, southern, soulful, shagadelic, good music. It’s just like Mom’s home cooking.”

Burgess has since moved to Los Angles and is working with Grammy nominated producer Kevin Kadish (Jason Mraz, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Hicks) and Mark Batson (Jay Z, Eminem, 50 Cent). When asked to describe himself he stated, “Every day I’m reinventing the way I write songs. As long as I can survive and get by and play music for a living, I’ll be alright.”

Here’s a performer that has earned our respect and is socialite approved. You can download or listen to his entire album here. Also become a fan on Facebook and follow Ben Burgess on Twitter.

Tupac Performs at Coachella WTF?

tupac

Tupac is back from the dead. Ok so technically he isn’t, but his hologram is alive and well. Tupac (excuse me his hologram) rapped with Snoop Dog last night at Coachella on “Come With Me,” “Hail Marry” and “Gangsta Party.” Coachella was already a crazy evening which included Snoop Dog, Dr. Dre, Eminem, 50 Cent, Wiz Khalifa, Tony Yayo, Warren G and Kurupt. These rappers while excellent are still on this planet. When Tupac, you know the legendary rapper who died over 15 years ago graced the stage, the entire place went absolutely nuts and rightfully so.

Imagine being on acid at Coachella and seeing a dead man reemerge as a hologram? Tupac wasn’t used in some video montage nor was his voice auto tuned into some tacky remix. Instead, Tupac was actually live on stage. Being completely sober, the only explainiation I can offer is a combination of “Avatar” and “The Sixth Sense” coming to life. I can’t even begin to put into words what audience members must have been feeling. Who knows what next week at Coachella will bring us. Maybe a heavenly rap battle between Tupac and Biggie?

A Shot of Yager: Podcast Interview w/ CAKE Frontman JOHN McCREA

cake

John McCrea and his band Cake have managed to pull off an impossible feat in today’s day and age. After coming onto the scene in the early 90’s during the heart of the grunge boom, Cake stuck to their guns and crafted their own sound. This was a sound that did not fit perfectly with the other alternative rock that was ruling the world at that time. Their songs “Short Skirt, Long Jacket”, “The Distance”, “Never There” and most recently “Long Time” from their newest record titled Showroom of Compassion are unforgettable tracks that amuse the senses while captivating the imagination. Vocalist and songwriter John McCrea joins me to talk about the key to their longevity, why their songs work so well in movies and television, their iconic album covers and much more!

-Hear how John is tied to the opening theme song for MAD MEN

-Find out who does CAKE’s iconic album covers!

-Will John ever score a feature film?

LISTEN TO FIND OUT!

Cake are swinging through the Palace Theater in Waterbury, CT. on May 9th! Get your tickets online!

Ultra Music Festival 2012 Highlights

ultra music festival

Campus Socialite had students on the ground covering the three day Ultra Music Festival that brought 165,000 fans to their feet. DJs that rocked the EDM extravaganza included Skrillex, Tiesto, David Guetta, Justice, Afrojack, Laidback Luke, Kraftwerk, New Order and many more. The most surprising moment at Bayfront Park in Miami may have been when headliner Avicii was introduced by Madonna. The 22 year old DJ premiered his remix to Madonna’s new single, “Girl Gone Wild.” Madonna than proceeded to make a statement fully knowing it would bring the house down with emphatic applause; “How many people in this crowd have seen Molly?”

Not everybody supported Madonna’s presence and especially choice of wording. Monday morning featured Deadmau5 ranting about Madonna’s advocacy for ecstasy on Facebook. Clearly he doesn’t support the use of MDMA (Molly) in the EDM culture believing its brings a negative stereotype to the scene. Here’s his honest assessment of Madonna which by the way we love.

If you weren’t there with us, we have you covered. For more highlights of the overall weekend, we collected the best videos one could find.
