Timothy Jordan, Sr. Developer Advocate for Google, presented at SXSW this past week about Google’s most anticipated product of 2013: Google Glass. Glass is creating a new user experience; bringing technology closer to the user, in order to get it out of the way. Mr. Jordan discussed how Glass can improve people’s lives and how developers can use the cloud API can bridge these new experiences. The Mirror API that Google released will allow developers to present information in ways that are designed for the wearable units, don’t get in the way, and don’t pop up at bad times. Attached is a link to Timothy Jordan’s presentation at SXSW where he discusses the Mirror API for developers,as well as best practices.

Can’t wait to see Glass on college campus. Here’s a list of Glass Ideas

Celebrate Life #ENDCANCER With Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation

Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation was created in 1996 by Grammy-nominated songwriter and philanthropist Denise Rich, in memory of her daughter Gabrielle after her untimely death from acute myelogenous leukemia (AML).  Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation funds the nation’s best and brightest young scientific investigators conducting research in the fields of leukemia, lymphoma and related cancers.  Since its inception, Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation has awarded grants totaling nearly $20 million and maintains its status as one of the largest non-governmental sources of grant support for blood cancer research in the nation.

Today, the Junior Committee of Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation has launched the first of four videos which will create a campaign and platform empowering youth to make a difference in the fight to end cancer.  The Junior Committee of the Foundation is made up of up and coming youth entertainers, philanthropists and entrepreneurs.

The team at Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation are close friends of Campus Socialite and we couldn’t be any more excited about getting involved to help the cause.  Watch the video, make a difference, be a True Campus Socialite!

On May 30th hundreds of young entertainers, philanthropists, entrepreneurs, and influencers will unite at Lavo to raise money for cancer research. You can purchase tickets here.

Share This Video!  Join us at the Millennial Ball on May 30th and do your part to help Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation!

Former Ray, Elijah Dukes Gets Caught Eating A Bag Of Pot

elijah dukes

elijah dukes

With the recent retirement of Ricky Williams, it was just a matter of time before an athlete tried to follow in his footsteps. Meet former Tampa Bay Ray, Elijah Dukes. The average person probably has no idea who he is, but they might now for all the wrong reasons.

Elijah Dukes is facing two charges from police with the first being marijuana possession. This is certainly not uncommon, as many people smoke weed hoping not to get caught. The second charge he’s facing is what makes the story disturbing: Destroying evidence by eating the entire bag of weed. What gave it away? The police saw flakes of pot on his shirt.

Eating the crumbs left over from your pot brownie is one thing. Shoving the remains of a plastic bag filled with weed into your mouth is just downright embarrassing. This has to be the low point in Elijah Duke’s career, and trust me he knows a thing or two about low points (batting average of .190 during his stint with the Rays). Dukes was only in the MLB for three seasons which also included being a member of the Washington Nationals. This is also not the first time Dukes has been arressted. His rap sheet includes charges of domestic violence, failure to pay child support, and more marijuana possession.

After being waived by the Washington Nationals, Dukes started his own rapping career going by the nickname “Fly Eli,” and no we’re not talking about Eli Manning letting it fly. The troubled athlete actually blamed baseball for blackballing him from the league. Apparently, he tried to do his best Jose Canseco impression to rat on his fellow players and tell league officials who was smoking weed after games. Hey Elijah,  the cat’s already out of the bag. We already knew professional athletes smoke weed. Except they usually don’t eat it.

Ricky Gervais Gets to Troll Another Golden Globes (w/ Videos)

If you’re into award shows as much as I am, then you already know that Ricky Gervais is going to host the Golden Globes for the third time. Tomorrow, Ricky Gervais is probably going to do what he does best: make tons of jokes about the other celebrities in the room, as well as the networks, production companies, and even the bureaucracy behind the award show itself. Basically, Ricky Gervais is just a cool motherfucker. Plain and simple. So lets take a look at what he did the past two years, and the awesome things that he said.

The 2010 Golden Globes

Things you need to remember about 2010: NBC was replacing Conan O’Brien with Jay Leno after they spent all that money building Conan his new set, everyone was talking about how much of an alcoholic Mel Gibson was, and actors were still full of themselves. The fact that Gervais attacked the network that was airing the Golden Globes just makes him one of the most awesome people ever.

The 2011 Golden Globes

Okay, 2011 was the year everybody got really pissed at Ricky Gervais. Not only did Ricky Gervais make fun of The Tourist, but he also brought up the rumors that there were major bribes going on. He also continued to make fun of Mel Gibson, made fun of the fact that Charlie Sheen locked a prostitute in a cupboard, and the fact that Hurley from Lost looks like he could eat the rest of the cast.

This Year

There’s so much that could happen this year, that it’s hard to see where he’s going to go with it. Some minor subjects include the Royal Wedding and the Kardashians. He may also touch on the fact that 2011 had the most sequels ever and that it could mark the end of creativity in Hollywood. But when you’ve got a loose cannon like Ricky Gervais getting drunk while standing in front of a bunch of other celebrities getting drunk, you know it’s going to be an awesome night.

Memphis Grizzlies -5.5 @ Houston Rockets

marc gasol grizzlies

Houston is in the second night of a back to back so things could get rough. Memphis is 0-2 and without Mike Conley but back-up Jeremy Pargo played well filling in their last game against Oklahoma City. The Grizzlies front line of Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph should give Jordan Hill, Samuel Dalembert, and Luis Scola lots of problems, however, Memphis’s two losses have came against the best two teams in the Western Conference in San Antonio and Oklahoma City. Look for Memphis to come out swinging for their first victory.

Memphis wins by 5

Philadelphia 76ers -3 @ Utah Jazz

Utah historically has always been a good home team, but they just are not a good team this season. Early in the season the 76ers have been in my opinion the most undervalued team in the NBA. The -1.5 line at Phoenix was a complete joke. The 76ers have a legit shot to win the Atlantic division. they are deep and talented in the front court and back court.

Philly wins by 8

The Ring Clock: Really Awesome or Really Geeky?

ring clock

As time goes on (No pun intended, really), I notice less and less people are wearing watches. Personally I’m a huge watch fan and I wouldn’t know what I’d do without those extra couple of ounces weighing down my wrist. I get it though. Carrying a phone is so much easier. But what if you didn’t even have to reach in to your pocket? What if all you had to do was glance at your ring finger?

This ring rotates in 3 different sections to tell you the time, right down to the second. It’s pretty tasteful too; not too wide, classy silver and dark grey. A little geeky? Of course, but maybe it’s so geeky, it’s actually cool. It’s just a concept at this point, created by Cyber, a CGSociety user, but I happen to think it’s really fucking cool and that someone should put it into production ASAP. I’ll keep my eye out.
