A new horror action adventure game was just announced this week. It is known as Catherine and it is made by ATLUS’s Persona team. Continuing the dark themes and overtones of the Persona series, Catherine looks bloody, bizarre and full of sex. Judging by the newly released trailer blood, sex and over the top violence are not what makes it so fudgeed up but the images of some of the creatures that seem to be rams that walk on two legs. If they are showing weird enemies like that in just a trailer than I can’t wait to see what kind of fudgeed up weird creatures we will see when the full game is released and the setting looks “nightmarish”. This seems like the perfect game to play while stoned or drunk.

Here is what the story is about so far. In Catherine you play Vincent, a regular 32-year-old salary man who has been having nightmares every night after he encountered a mystery woman named Catherine. In the game you must escape from the world of nightmares by climbing to the top of the building, otherwise you will not be able ever wake up again. Sounds a bit like A Nightmare on Elm Street but on LSD.Here is some more information from www.andriasang.com

“The game begins when Vincent, a vegetarian who has no ambition in work or love (I’m not sure if he’s literally a ‘vegetarian,’ or if the term ‘vegetarian’ is some sort of metaphor for his personality) runs into the mysterious Catherine one day. At night, he has nightmares.”

The nightmares serve as an action component for the game. Set in a world with an unending stairway, Vincent has to make it to the top of the stairs, or he will not be able to awaken.

Based off Game Jouhou’s summary, it’s a bit unclear how the game will progress. However, it does seem that even during the nightmare action parts, you’ll end up working through the story and encountering events.

Soejima said that there are some shockingly adult scenes in the game. When you play these scenes, they’ll be even more stimulating, although in a difference sense.

So expect lots of sex scenes and violence when this game ships for PS3/Xbox 360. No release date is confirmed yet.
