Top Five College Dorm Room Snacks

In college, it’s important to be able to find the cheapest, easiest and most convenient ways to get food. There should always be snacks kept under the bed, just in case you have the munchies after smoking some herb, coming back from the bar drunk and hungry, or just find it too unbearable to walk all the way to the cafeteria in the cold. Whatever the reason may be here are the top five essentials to college snacking.

5) Chips and Salsa

One of the best, quick snacks, whether before class or with a sandwich for lunch, is chips and salsa. It requires no cooking whatsoever. All you need to do is make sure you have a little mini-fridge to store the salsa after you’re done. The best chips and salsa are the Tostitos scoops and the matching brand of salsa. The scoops are perfect to fit into the jar and get all of the salsa out of it without making a mess. The Tostitos scoops also come in whole grain, which are only 140 calories per serving; the salsa is only about 15 calories per serving. The only downfall to this snack is stinky breath. Make sure not to eat this right before going out or hooking up with someone, at least without brushing your teeth first.

4) Popcorn

Pop it into a microwave for about a minute and thirty seconds and you have a great healthy snack. It’s perfect for snuggling up with someone special in your extra-long twin while watching a movie, or just to have during a study break. Most people don’t realize it, but popcorn is actually one of the healthiest snacks for someone to eat. No, I’m not talking about the popcorn that you get at the movie theater, swimming in butter and salt. I’m talking about the low fat, butterless popcorn you can get at the grocery store that is only 30 calories per serving.

3) Healthy Choice Fresh Mixers

Healthy Choice Fresh Mixers are quick, whole meals that do not have to be kept in the freezer and can be cooked within minutes. “Cook it, strain it, mix it, love it” is the company’s slogan, who give you everything you need to make the dish, except the water. Add water to the pasta and wait for it to boil in the microwave. Then just use the strainer that comes built into the packaging and get out all the excess water. Heat up the precooked sauce for 30 seconds in the microwave, pour it on top of the pasta, and within minutes you have dinner!

2) Soup

Soup is the best snack for any cold day, or if you are just not feeling that great. Microwaving soup right in your dorm has only become easier with companies like Campbells or Healthy Choice making microwavable soup bowls and my personal favorite, soup at hand. This is great for the college student on the go. Just heat up the portable container, that can be carried around just easily as a cup of coffee, and you have a meal under 100 calories, that comes in twelve different variations.

1) Easy Mac

The number one choice though, for any dorm room, is Easy Mac. Three minutes guarantees you one of the best foods to eat if you are either drunk or high. For some reason, Easy Mac just tastes better the more fudgeed up you are. All you need is water to pour in the little individual cups that Easy Mac give you and bang, you have the ultimate snack to satisfy any craving!
