In honor of the season finale of Entourage I am going to give out my Week 1 NFL awards…

The Sloan Award (this is for being above and beyond everyone and everything)

Arian Foster…The Houston Texans running back helped Houston finally get past the Indianapolis Colts with 231 yards and 3 touchdowns. If the Texans came up short against the Colts it would have been a lost season. They put everything into this one game by talking about how important it was all through the offseason. Houston backed up the talk and picked up a victory which they hope catapults them to a quick start. It doesn’t get any easier for Kubiak and co the next two weeks as they play two of their NFC East games @ Washington and vs. Dallas.

The Vince Story Line (For the first time I ever remember the writers of Entourage showed some actual balls and did a storyline with some actual substance. I’m hoping the next season starts with Vinny in rehab…Award goes for the gutsiest performance)

Wes Welker and Kenny Phillips…Wes Welker was injured in the Pats Wild Card game against the Ravens. Some thought Kenny Phillips would never play again because of jumper’s knee. Welker scored two touchdowns and helped New England put the Bengals in their place. I’ve heard enough about Cincinnati as a Super Bowl contender for the next 10 years. Last season Week 2 was the last time Kenny Phillips had stepped on the field. It was a NBC Sunday night game with the Giants taking on Cowboys. Phillips had 2 interceptions and one of them should have been a touchdown (forget exactly what happened, but it didn’t count). Now the University of Miami product is back on the field and had an impact for Big Blue even though he didn’t look 100%.

The Turtle Award (Turtle is the worst character on Entourage. If he got killed off the show in the first episode of the last season it would immediately give the show an added boost. A great way to do it is in a drunk driving accident. This award is for what I could of gone without in Week 1)

The Two NFC West Games…The two most miserable games of Week 1 were the Arizona Cardinals vs. St. Louis Rams and the San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks. Both games were horrendous. Within a span of 24 hours I had to watch Arizona State play a disgusting game against Northern Arizona University followed by the Cards struggling to beat one of the worst teams in football last year. That is 7 hours of my life I won’t get back.

Speaking of college football my man Denard Robinson is out of his mind. Heisman!

Sorry about that, back to the awards.

Everyone needs to shut up about the San Francisco 49ers till they get a quarterback. The winner of this division is going to be a punching bag in the Wild Card round of the NFC playoffs.

The Alex Award (The girl using Turtle to get money for the Tequila company…who got used in the NFL Week 1)

The Media…Randy Moss is in the last year of a 3 year deal and he wants a new contract. Moss used his post game press conference after the Pats Week 1 victory to make it known to the world. This was already a known fact, but now Moss used the media in a more public setting than a scrum after practice to drum up some trouble and try to force New England to lock him up. Robert Kraft and Belichick don’t want to deal with Moss being unhappy and Randy knows by going to the media he is ruining BB’s perfect little world. Plus Kraft just took care of Brady he knows he should be next on the list. Going to be real interesting to see how this plays out.

Scott and E Award (tension building ready to go to battle)

Baltimore Ravens vs. New York Jets…New York Jets Head Coach Rex Ryan wants to beat his old team real bad. The Ravens and Jets have been chirping at each other all week and these teams are ready to smack each other around Monday Night. Can’t wait to watch my man Jim Leonhard unload on one of his former teammates.

The Shauna Award (for the biggest disappearing act…I don’t think Shauna was in this season for a total of 50 seconds)

Dallas Cowboys…One of the heavy Super Bowl favorites from the NFC couldn’t take care of business against the Washington Redskins. Donovan McNabb won his first game not wearing the white and green. Tony Romo was only able to lead the Boys potent offense to one touchdown. Expect to see Dallas offensive coordinator Jason Garrett to stick to the run more next week. Romo threw 47 passes and the Barber/Jones combo only ran the ball 16 times even though they averaged just under 5 yards a carry.

Ari Tossed to the Curb by his Wife Award (self explanatory no explanation needed)

Eric Mangini…A loss to the Tampa Bay Buccanears was not how the Mangenius needed year two of his Browns tender to start. It won’t be long before Mike Holmgren tells the former New York Jets Head Coach to pack his stuff.

The Sasha Grey Award (Sasha Grey was about to tape a porn where she was with multiple guys at once…what NFL team took it in multiple fashions on Sunday?)

Cincinnati Bengals…The New England Patriots pounded Cincy 38-24. The Pats gave it to the Bengals in various ways. Brady and Welker played pitch and catch for two touchdowns, Gary Guyton scored with an interception return for a TD, and Brandon Tate sealed the deal with a 97 yard kick off return for a TD that extended the lead to 31-3.

That wraps up the Week 1 NFL awards.

One thing I didn’t have an award for, but I am writing an article so it is mandatory that I mention it was Michael Vick’s performance against the Green Bay Packers. Philadelphia was dead in that game and Vick turbo charged an entire team. The Eagles fell short against the cheeseheads, but we found #7 has a lot left in the tank.

Vick leaves Head Coach Andy Reid in a tough spot. You can’t pull your starting QB Kevin Kolb after one bad half if you truly believe he is your future. On the other hand the NFL is all about winning and it is realistic to say Vick is the Eagles best chance to win right now.

I wouldn’t want to be in Andy Reid’s shoes because no matter what he decides to do if it doesn’t work there are going to be a faction of people angry at him. If it was my decision if Kolb can play next week I start him, but he would be on a very short leash.
