Getting All Gussed Up for Madden '11

Much like is has been in every previous annual installment, Madden 2011 promises to be a smash hit for all sports fans and gamers upon it’s release on August 10, 2011.  I could go on and on about all the awesome, user-friendly updates that Madden ’11 has to offer by discussing the improved gameplay, online scouting, enhanced stadium lighting, and new overtime rules – but in all honesty I am more jacked up about the addition of the maniacal on-air personality Gus Johnson.  Gus brings new meaning to the term “raucous” and is gonna bring the pain to the commentary booth just like a DeMarcus Ware blind side sack.  For those of you who aren’t familiar with Johnson’s legendary mic work, just read on and take a look at some of his epic sideline gems.

Love him or hate him, there’s simply no denying that Gus Johnson brings a hell of a lot of emotion to a sporting event once he puts on that headset and starts spouting off such classic exclamatory lines as, “He’s got run away from the cops speed!” Yes, he actually did say that and it was in reference to Chris Johnson of the Tennessee Titans breaking a long run. It’s that kind of blend of humor and emotion, coupled with a truckload of sports broadcasting experience, that EA Sports hopes will make everyone forget Tom Hammond’s forgettable and awful work in last year’s Madden.

Take a look below to see a sample of Gus’s Madden ’11 stylings and my favorite Johnson clip of all time.
