Hangover Helpers: An Interview with Marc Simons

Have you ever thrown an awesome party, but when you saw the mess the next day, you almost wish you never had it?  Have you ever walked out of your bedroom the night after a party, stepped in a sticky puddle of Jell-O shot residue and old beer and wanted to vomit?

Well, Marc Simons and Alex Vere-Nicoll have found a solution to such a predicament.

Simons, 25, and Vere-Nicoll, 24, have developed a business idea called Hangover Helpers designed to help college students overcome their massive hangovers while allowing them the luxury of not cleaning up their party-induced messes.

So, here’s what you can expect if you call the Hangover Helper services (if you are in Colorado, that is): a full clean-up of the party area, a breakfast burrito, and an ice cold Gatorade.

Though Simons and Vere-Nicoll do not provide a full maid service, of course, you can expect some professional cleaning.

“We go to the house after a party, usually while the guys are in class, and we clean,” says Simons.  “We sweep, mop, clean counters, do dishes…and clean up all the beer cans and party cups.  It’s basically general party cleaning.”

Simons adds, “We also bring our panini maker and make each roommate a breakfast burrito and provide them with ice water and Gatorades.”

Not bad for only $15 a roommate.

While these two University of Colorado at Boulder graduates began testing the waters about a year ago, they made the business official just two weeks ago, and are already receiving excellent feedback.

Though the project became more well-known through word of mouth publicity, the addition of a website and Facebook group and hanging fliers through the Colorado campus have increased the clientele significantly.

“We have received a lot of interest, several clients, and we expect it to grow after finals time,” says Simons.  “We’re expecting business to pick up more when it gets warmer.  Everyone seems to really like the idea.”

Unfortunately for those of us on the other side of the country, Hangover Helpers is currently located in Colorado…a bit of a drive for a clean-up.

Even so, the boys are open to business expansion.  Though they would prefer keeping the company restricted to college-age students and have licensed the name “Hangover Helpers,” they are open to expanding the business nationwide.

If you or one of your friends is interested in participating in the business or in developing a franchise of your own, feel free to contact the creators via their website (www.helpinghangovers.com) or through their Facebook group (Hangover Helpers).

I personally would love to see Hangover Helpers brought to my campus.  There is nothing worse than having the best party of your life… and seeing the consequences spilled all over your kitchen and dining room the following morning.
