After Inglorious Basterds, which feels like 10 years ago, we’ve all been waiting patiently for more. I don’t know about you guys, but I could watch Jews beating Nazis with bats for 3 hours a day and go to sleep every night with a satisfied smile on my face. When it comes to gratuitous violence, bad-ass characters, and massive shoot-outs, Quentin Tarantino cannot be beat, and with Leonardo Dicaprio signed on, and Jamie Foxx about to be, Tarantino’s new project Django Unchained looks to be gaining serious momentum. More after the jump.

After tackling LA Crime Dramas, Kung-Fu flicks, and Period Pieces, Tarantino will be taking on the legendary Western. You could easily make the case that Kill Bill 2 was in fact a Western, but Django Unchained looks to be more on the classic, traditional Western side. Think Clint Eastwood. Westerns tend to be a forgotten genre in modern film (If you count out The Coens), but if anyone can bring it back with style, it’s everyone’s favorite cult director.

The movie will follow the adventure of Django, a freed slave who teams up with a Bounty Hunter to kill an evil plantation owner. Not sure what makes one slave-owner more evil than another, but hey, I don’t doubt Quentin Trantino’s skill for shock value. After what seems like years of cute little cameos, Jamie Foxx seems poised to take the role as Django. Will Smith was originally considered, but he is apparently out. Don’t get me wrong. I would never, ever hate on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. But Will Smith tends to draw more of a “popcorn” crowd than legit film fans. With movies like Collateral and Ray under his belt, Jamie Foxx is a much better choice.

A Tarantino western, Jamie Foxx! That’s not even the best part. None other than Leonardo Dicaprio is signed on to play the evil plantation owner. If the last 5 years are any indicator, if Leo is signed on, the script must be frickin amazing. After Inception, I don’t think I’d ever not see one of his movies again. The villain is always the best character, especially in a Tarantino film. Dicaprio is going to frickin kill it.

The movie is set to have it’s UK release in December of 2012. No word on the U.S. yet. Stay tuned Socialites. It’s going to be one to remember.
