Jim Tressel RESIGNS as Head Coach of Ohio State Football Team

After months of scrutiny over his shady handling of multiple player violations, Jim Tressel has resigned as Ohio State football coach.  The resignation marks a dark, low-point for the program known as one of the top in the country each year.  This would have been Tressel’s 11th season at the helm.  Tressel had received an email from a Booster about his players and failed to notify the university, amongst other discretions.  He was due to serve a five game suspension to start next season before he quit this morning.

“After meeting with university officials, we agreed that it is in the best interest of Ohio State that I resign as head football coach,” Tressel said in a statement Monday morning. “The appreciation that Ellen and I have for the Buckeye Nation is immeasurable.”
