Family weekend is an interesting time on college campuses. So many family-oriented events, but really the only important one is the football game/tailgating. It’s a different feeling drinking with your parents because you’re trying to keep yourself from being the usual hot mess that you usually are.
Well I’m all for family bonding, but I think there should be a line and I think Kylie Eastwood, 36, has jumped over that line, spit on it, and set it on fire.
Two years ago, Eastwood was accused of giving her 5-year-old son shots of homemade grappa. Grappa is an alcoholic beverage, a fragrant grape-based pomace brandy of between 35% and 60% alcohol by volume (70 to 120 US proof). Sounds tasty.
The father of the child said he found his 5-year-old taking shots out of a shot glass with his mother cheering him on. When the police arrived they say he was making ‘grunting noises’ and walking into walls. I’m sure some of us have had that moment, but we’re all over the ripe ol’ age of 5. The boy was taken to a hospital where it was learned that his blood-alcohol reading was 0.09. That might be one beer for you, but for a kindergartener that’s tank-status.
Fast-foward to 2010: The mom was recently sentenced to at least five months in prison after a judge found her efforts to stay sober since the event were not enough to spare her serving time behind bars. Her lawyer, John Verhoeven, told the court she had been mostly sober since the 2008 incident, except for two lapses. Sorry Kylie, but you didn’t try hard enough, and while I’m sure watching a child walk into falls and fall down is funny, it probably wasn’t the morally correct thing to do. Welcome to prison, I’m sure the other lady prisoners are going to love your talent for homebrewing.
