The Party Don’t Start Till (You?) Walk In

You know how people love to talk about the interesting, crazy person they met out the night before? Well, who said that interesting, crazy person couldn’t be you?

Don’t take this the wrong way, I’m not saying you as yourself are not an awesome human being, but why not have fun with your reputation? After all, you should be the only one fabricating and elaborating on your life (even though we all know everyone gossips and discusses rumors).

Anyway, how much fun would it be to create multiple alter egos? Each time you go out, create a new persona. Tell your friends, have them play along and talk to you as if you were your created character and not yourself. You’ll have a great time, one night you can be Fabio, an Italian soccer player who got hurt and had to stop playing so you moved to America or you could be Nicole, the RoccaWear model from 1998 (how do you NOT recognize her?).

Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson used this technique in their hit Wedding Crashers. They always pretended to be different people, related to the wedding in some way or another, yet even though everyone knew they were not really in the family, they went along with it so they wouldn’t be the idiot who called out the fakers.

Imagine the amount of people that would be confused around your campus? It’s funny to think about. When someone acts in character, or doesn’t really act, just pretends to be someone other than themselves, they tend to have more confidence and become more outgoing. Fabio will make so many friends, people will probably try to find him on Facebook, but they never will. Joke’s on them.

Then imagine if somebody who knows you as Fabio sees you out while you’re Mike, the guy who’s photographed backwards for frame inserts. Disaster, but hilarious. Regardless of what your name is on any given night, you’ll be the center of attention-because you’ll be the one everyone wants to question.

Wear something crazy, come up with a name and description, stick to it and vuola! You just walked in and brought the party with you.

Oh, one more thing, if you do chose to have fun with this suggestion, and your name is really Jason and you aren’t an Italian soccer player, don’t laugh out loud when the people you told you’re fake story to start introducing you around as Fabio. It’s tough, but try.
