Campus Diva Playlist of the Week: Rolling Out of Bed

sleeping

Last week’s Playlist of the Week had to do with beach music. This week, the sweet laziness of summer has probably disappeared for most of us, with jobs and internships slowly starting to take over these warm months. I realize waking up and knowing you’re going to sit in an office all day while the sun is shining definitely sucks and makes the waking up process harder, so for this week’s playlist, I’m starting you off with some good songs that make it easier to roll out of bed.  I’ve scoured the Internet and found that these five songs pop up on almost everyone’s morning playlist. They’re upbeat enough to get you moving, but mellow enough that you won’t feel like you need your morning coffee yet.

1. Under the Bridge – Red Hot Chili Peppers

The Red Hot Chili Peppers, along with every other band I’ve listed here, has the ultimate chill music. While some of the Peppers’ songs are a little harder and require more energy to listen to than you have when just rolling out of bed, Under the Bridge is not like that. It’s a pretty well-known song, and has a more simple melody that won’t disrupt your waking up process.

2. Beautiful Day – U2

90% of the time when you’ll be waking up this summer, the sun will be shining. Although you may not be able to take advantage of it, why not acknowledge it? If you wake up to depressing music, I truly believe you’ll have a worse day than if you wake up to happier, more upbeat tunes. When you go with U2, stick with Beautiful Day or even Elevation, if you could handle that one at your early wake up hour.

3. Uptown Girl – Billy Joel

One of my all-time favorite songs. Any Billy Joel song could be inserted into this spot in the playlist, but Uptown Girl is so happy and carefree that having it on as background wake up music can do absolutely nothing negative to your day. Brush your teeth to Billy and you’ll be set for the day.

4. Trash Day – Butch Walker

What would a playlist that I make be without some Butch Walker on it? Trash Day comes off of Butch’s most recent album, so technically, it’s performed by Butch Walker and the Black Widows. Whatever. Its beat goes along with that of Under the Bridge and Beautiful Day, and even though it’s called Trash Day, and is sort of about garbage, the song is still a happy tune worth listening to.

5. Never Let You Go – Third Eye Blind

Third Eye Blind, another classic band with great songs. Just like the Chili Peppers, Third Eye Blind has music that, as you should know, could go either way when it comes to the beat and the level of energy needed to listen to the tracks. Never Let You go is one of their slower, happier-sounding tunes. While Jumper is also a great Third Eye Blind song, personally I find it a little too heavy to wake up to.

Got any songs you think deserve to be on this playlist? Throw them in the comments and we’ll add them on!
