November 15, 1996 – a day that I will always remember fondly as a milestone for fans of animation and basketball alike.  On that day, some friends of mine and I did what every other youngster in the world was doing, we begged until our parents agreed to drive us to the movie theater to witness Michael Jordan’s return to basketball.  No, he wasn’t holding a clinic at the Loews Theatre in Garden City, NY, but MJ was starring in the live-action/animated film Space Jam and bringing his A-game to the silver screen.  Anyone who claims to be a Jordan fan, or a cartoon fan for that matter, has seen the motion picture and has a soft spot in their heart for the Monstars, Looney Tunes, and of course R. Kelly’s stirring rendition of “I Believe I Can Fly.”  Thanks to Osneaker, the spirit of Space Jam remains alive and well, reborn in their Nike Air Jordan XI Space Jam Retros.

Before he could make his 1994-95 return to the NBA with a supporting cast of Scottie Pippen, Toni Kukoc, and Ron Harper, Air Jordan first had to get his legs back with Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd, and the Tasmanian Devil.  Rather than playing for the NBA Title, Michael played for his wacky Looney Tunes friends whose freedom was threatened to by those dastardly Nerdlucks from Moron Mountain.  When the tiny Nerdlucks stole the balling abilities of then-NBA greats Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, Larry Johnson, Mugsy Bogues, and for some reason Shawn Bradley, they transformed into the Monstars and Jordan faced a challenge greater than the Pistons of the late ’80s.  All Michael needed to do was lace up his Space Jam Retros and the rest was history.

Who can forget when Jordan scored the winning basket by doing his best Stretch Armstrong impression and dunking from half court?  While the average moviegoer and NBA fan figured that his arms were doing the work, it was his kicks that really deserved the credit.  They feature a black upper section, which includes black patent leather, along with a varsity royal Jumpman logo. The white midsole, which does stand out and draw attention to the shoe, sits on a clear outsole to render a striking white on black contrast.  The Space Jams draws inspiration from a tuxedo design that is evident with the patent leather, and many of the colorways.  Included in the $285 Space Jam package from Osneaker are some wild looking shoe trees great for keeping your kicks from creasing.  Check out Air Jordan’s Hollywood footwear exclusively at Osneaker.
