The Campus Diva Interview with Cocktail Chic

By: Jessica Ariel (University Of Miami)

Campus Divas pride themselves on being “in the know.” Whether it is in regards to hot spots, dating, beauty or fashion, they always seem to be aware of what’s in and what’s out. So, when we came across a Twitter account, @CocktailChic, that seemed to encompass everything you could want to know in fashion, beauty and relationship advice, all while being witty and cute, we were intrigued. We checked out her websites, and became even more captivated by this anonymous blogger. So who is this mystery woman behind Cocktail Chic, may you ask? Her name is Ashley Tschudin and The Campus Diva had the opportunity to chat with her for a little

Campus Diva (CD): You have two fabulous blogs, Cocktail Chic and Vintage Vanity, can you tell us how these came about?

Cocktail Chic (CC): Well, I had a serious breakup three years ago and on the plane home to LA for winter break I was writing a journal entry. I came back to it a couple months later and thought hey this could make an interesting blog. The only problem was that I didn’t know how to get my name out there. Then Twitter came out and I started getting a lot of followers in the fashion and beauty industry. I decided to create Vintage Vanity, which has been up for about year now.

CD: Were you always into fashion?

CC: Yes, I think it stemmed from living in LA and being surrounded by it. When I got to college I started reading fashion magazines and websites, and now it has become an obsession.

CD: Well, you definitely seem to be in the know regarding what’s in style, can you tell us what trends we should look out for this spring?

CC: I think we are definitely moving towards more pastels and nude colors. Floral dresses seem to be coming back, along with nude platforms. I’ve also been seeing Clogs on the Chanel runways recently.

CD: Clogs?

CC: (Laughs) I am little apprehensive to bring them back myself. Maybe if they’re Chanel.

CD: So, is Chanel you’re favorite brand then?

CC: I love Chanel. It’s even the logo for Cocktail Chic. I do think the quilted purses are very over done, unless of course you can get your hands on vintage.

CD: I’ve read through your relationship blog and you know what you’re talking about! What’s the secret to having a successful relationship?

CC: If I knew the secret to relationships right now I would be married (Laughs). This is actually the first time I’ve been single since I was 15. I’ve just been so busy with work and my career, and that’s what I’m really focused on right now. I’m at the point where if it happens it happens but I’m not looking for a relationship. So many girls these days are too dependent on a man to make them happy. I’ve learned that you have to be very confident in yourself, and have your life set straight. Right now I’m focusing on myself.

CD: That’s great advice and I completely agree. Now your twitter has an astronomical number of followers! People love you! What are your plans for the future?

CC: Actually I get asked this question a lot! I’m a senior at the University of Oregon right now, but when I’m done with school I’m looking to move to New York. I am hoping to put together a press kit that I can send to companies for further product and company reviews and get sponsors and advertising. I would like to have a full staff and be able to expand the website. I would also love to join Cocktail Chic and Vintage Vanity as one website.

CD: That sounds amazing! You are so ambitious, and look at everything you’ve already accomplished… you’re just a senior in college! I have to say, reading your blogs, and speaking with you know, you remind me so much of Carrie Bradshaw (Which is the ultimate compliment in my eyes!). Did Sex and The City inspire you at all?

CC: Sex and the City is by far my favorite show of all time! (CD: Us too!) I own all of the episodes from every season, I own the movie and I am definitely planning on going to the midnight showing of the second one. It did inspire me, but I don’t want people to think I’m out to copy her in that way. I’m just here to inspire young girls. It’s been a long hard process; I didn’t wake up to over 4,000 followers on twitter one day. It takes a lot of work and a lot of dedication, but if it’s your passion and if you are committed to it, you can do it!

CD: Before we go I have to tell you I’m dying to know… Considering you are Cocktail Chic, what is your favorite cocktail?

CC: My favorite cocktail… I would have to say… a Long Island. It’s one of those drinks that’s not super girly but it’s still pretty girly though. It has a lot of alcohol too, so you don’t need a million drinks!
