It’s officially October and although most of the country has their eyes on post-season baseball, some of us are already preparing for the biggest costume party of the year — also known as Halloween. As a child this fall holiday means candy, candy and more candy. As a college student, however, Halloween brings a few different traditions.
When picking out your costume (or, if you plan on celebrating more than one night, costumes), make sure to avoid these cliché get-ups:
Naughty School Girl
We’ve all seen it and yes, I’ll admit I’ve fallen into this trap, but how many more times can we see this costume? You’re not Britney Spears circa 1998 and you’re not in high school anymore. If you have residual anger from your school uniform days, just burn the thing.
French Maid
Do maids really dress this way? Maybe in France, but this is America. So if they’re not trotting around dusting your furniture in skimpy black and white skirts, then why should you?
Naughty Nurse
You can find this costume in a million different styles, but no matter what, it’s still trashy…and you’ll probably get a million guys telling you that they need their temperature taken, or that they’re hurt and only you can cure them, or some other lame health-related pickup line.
These are just three basic examples – I’m sure you could think of a lot more. No matter what you decide to dress up as this year, let’s try to keep it classy, Socialites.
