Top 10 Summer Makeup Must-Haves

By: Ann Redus (UTSA)

Keeping a fresh-faced, effortless look during those hot summer days can be hard to achieve, but I’ve personally picked 10 makeup products ranging from hair to skin to nails to ensure you’re covered all day. Trends this summer include pops of color on your nails and vibrate shades of pink for your lips. Get a fresh-off-the-beach look with sun-kissed cheeks and subtle, salty waves in your hair. I guarantee these products will give you the natural look of summer without any effort.

1. Chapstick: $1.79

It’s essential. Guys don’t like kissing girls with a ton of lip gloss on so keep it simple with Chapstick. And you’ll have plenty of options with their 11 different kinds.

2. Bare Escentuals Flawless Definition Mascara: $18

I own this mascara and get compliments on my eyelashes all the time! The brush was a little hard to get used to at first, but I’ve grown to love it. It’s also not going to hurt your eyelashes because it’s good for them!

3. MAC Warm Soul Blush: $21

My sister gave this to me for Christmas and it’s PERFECT. It gives you a luminous color that stays on all day and the product itself has lasted me over six months.

4. Frederic Fekkai Wave Creating Spray: $20

Don’t you love the curl your hair has to it when you leave the beach? That’s what this product is supposed to mimic. With ingredients such as salt and other marine botanicals, you get the same sexy beach hair you’d get at the ocean at home.

5. Primer Potion from Urban Decay: $18

I always used to hate when my eye shadow would fade throughout the day, or even worse – at night. So I got Primer Potion from Urban Decay and I couldn’t be more satisfied. Put it on before you put on your eye shadow and you won’t have to worry about your eye shadow or liner for hours!

6. Outlast Lip Stain from Cover Girl: (price varies by location)

Perfect to put on under your Chapstick to give you all day color for your lips. It isn’t very moisturizing so I wouldn’t recommend wearing it alone. It is supposed to give you a flat color but the colors they have are bold and perfect for summer, especially when you don’t have a ton of time to reapply lip gloss.

7. Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunscreen from Neutrogena: $10.50

With Helioplex technology, this is the perfect sunscreen for summer. It’s light so it won’t clog your pores and as soon as you put it on, you’re dry!

8. Turquoise and Caicos nail polish from Essie: $8

First of all, Essie (hands down) makes the best nail polish out there. If you find a salon that carries it, see if they have this color. One of the biggest trends this summer is jewel-toned manicures and pedicures. Better yet, buy it at a beauty supply store and do it yourself. This color goes great with corals and oranges and even better against tan skin.

9. Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer from Stila: $15

With a built in sunscreen, you couldn’t ask for more when it comes to a tinted moisturizer. It’s light, evens out your skin tone, and it’s hydrating. Slap some of it on before the beach for a little coverage and you’ll be set for the entire day!

10. Caribbean in a Compact Bronzer from Too Faced: $27

This bronzer will give you the “just-off-the-boat” tan you’re looking for this summer. It’s the right balance between shimmer and color you can sweep across your face without giving you that Jersey Shore orange color.
