10 Badass Video Games Weapons To Bring To A Fight

By: Brandon Wolfson

1. Spread Gun (Contra) – The infamous Spread Gun. To many NES era gamers, this was THE power up to get in Contra. This is the gun that would wipe out every enemy on the screen and it also gives the player the biggest advantage against the series of many mammoth bosses. The Spread Gun will always have a special place in our hearts.

2. Fire Ball (Super Mario Series) – Not sure if I would call this a weapon or a power up, but the Fire Ball is the first projectile that I have used as a “weapon” in a video game. The Fire Flower has been around since 1985 and while it has taken a less prominent role over the years due to Mario’s other power ups such as the Raccoon Suit and the Cape, the Fire Flower will always be remembered for its huge advantage in Super Mario Brothers 1. You can easily defeat Bowser if Mario is equipped with the Fire Flower.

3. BFG 9000 (Doom) – How can there be a list of awesome weapons WITHOUT the mention of the BFG? In case you don’t know what that stands for it means Big F****N Gun. This beast is the most powerful weapon in Doom and can easily clear an entire room full of Cyber Demons.

4. Various Beam Katana’s (No More Heroes) – My personal favorite is the beam katanas. Wielded by otaku assassin Travis Touchdown of the No More Heroes series. Travis has made a name for himself in the gaming world thanks to his beam katana that he bought from eBay (I am not joking). Over the course of the two games that Travis is in, he wields a variety of different beam katanas like a 3-in-1 beam katana that deals lots of damage, a samurai style katana that is quick and stylish or he can dual wield two katanas at once. Luke Skywalker would S**T his pants if he had to fight Travis.  If you have never played No More Heroes I recommend that you check it out and slice your enemies in half in this over the top action game for the Wii.

5. The Master Sword (Legend of Zelda Series) – The Master Sword has pretty much become a character itself over the years in the LoZ series. It is the sword that gets hyped for half the game and when you finally pull the sword out from the pedestal you feel untouchable.  The Master Sword is, in most LoZ games, the strongest sword in the game bearing a few exceptions.  It is mentioned that the sword is created by Ancient Sages. All information regarding the Master Sword can be found here.

6. Metal Gear Rex (Metal Gear Solid 4) – Late in MGS4 you get to control the huge walking bipedal nuclear tank known as Metal Gear Rex. Rex was originally in MGS1 and was piloted by Solid Snakes twin brother Liquid Snake. At the end of Chapter 4 in MGS4 you finally get to pilot this beast yourself as you plow through enemy fodder with machine gun torrents and missile launchers. The best part of the sequence with Rex is the end boss battle with Liquid Ocelot as he pilots Metal Gear Ray (MSG2) in a one on one mecca brawl. Nothing is more kick ass than controlling a giant walking nuclear tank. Here’s a video of this awesomeness:

7. Chicago Typewriter (Resident Evil 4) – The Chicago Typewriter is a special gun that you unlock in RE4. It is some sort of uber powerful machine gun that has infinite ammo. Nothing beats a speed run through RE4 using this monster of a gun. Just be warned that using this gun can take the fun out of the game because it is just so damn powerful that it takes mere seconds to drop bosses such as El Gigante .

8. Scythe (Ninja Gaiden 2) – Death, eat your heart out. This is how you use your patented weapon . Nobody uses this deadly blade as gracefully as the Master Ninja himself, Ryu Hayabusa. Ryu will slice and dice enemies in half which will leave visceral blood spay and body parts all over the screen.

9. Blades of Athena/Exile/Chaos (God of War series) – Kratos starts the series off with the Blades of Chaos chained and burned into his body. These blades were given to Kartos by the Goddess Athena and are very magical and powerful weapons that have brought down almost every ancient Greek God. Over the course of the series the blades become more and more powerful through various upgrades.

10. Mega Buster (Mega Man series) – At first glance it may appear that Mega Man’s primary weapon is just a weak pea shooter, but it is anything but that. When this beast is powered up it releases a huge blast that can disintegrate nearby foes, but what makes the Mega Buster really special and unique is the fact that when Mega Man defeats a foe he can steal their powers and use them as attacks through the Mega Buster. Not only does the Mega Buster kick your ass but it also steals your powers, that is just plain insulting to your foes.
