Working Out Without Going to the Gym

The holiday season is a time for friends, family, gifts, and, most importantly, food. Give yourself a break and indulge in however much food you want because this is really the one time of year where it is totally acceptable to pig out. Also, it’s still cold enough outside to hide under a bunch of layers. However, once the spring semester kicks in, you might want to think about working off some of those extra pounds. If you’re like me and most other people, you probably don’t enjoy working out at the gym. It can get pretty boring just staring at the wall while running on the treadmill or lifting the same boring old weights. So, I’ve developed some tips to losing weight without ever having to step into a gym.

1) Join An Intramural Team Or Club Sport

Find a club sport or an intramural sport to help you get motivated about working out. Working out alone normally turns into one big fail. You’re motivated for about 2 or 3 days before you realize you’re bored and could be doing more enjoyable things, like drinking or playing video games. Joining a club sport gives you an incentive to work out, not only for yourself, but also for your team. Also, playing a sport can be fun and more exciting than working out inside a gym.

2) Ride Your Bike To Class

To make your commute to class a little more interesting, ride your bike. Not only can riding a bike give you a great workout, but it can also get you to class faster than walking. Even if you live off-campus, but are close enough to walk or ride your bike, do it. There is no need to constantly be driving your car to campus and wasting a half an hour finding a parking spot anyway.

3) Running Back From The Bar

No one goes to the bar dressed warmly. Girls want to look as sexy/slutty as possible and guys don’t want to worry about being hot and sweaty at the bar while they’re dancing, so there is no point in bringing a coat. You may be warm once inside, but getting there is another story. Since you will be gulping down thousands of calories anyway, you might as well get some exercise in. As you’re freezing walking to and from the bar, make your drunken ass speed walk down the street, or slightly jog. Not only will doing so keep you a little warmer, but it may help you burn off some calories.

4) Playing Wii

I always see my guy friends playing the newest Call of Duty or Halo in their room. It’s like they are glued to the TV and cannot focus on anything besides killing each other. Well, I think they should try a new game: Wii Fit. By using Wii Fit, a video game system that forces you to actually move your body while playing, you will not only be playing a fun video game, but you will also be burning some calories while doing it.
