UGA Students Get Ready to Rage: It’s The Return of Georgia Theatre

georgia-theatre

Nearly two years after an early-morning fire decimated the 122-year old venue on June 19, 2009, the Georgia Theatre is thrilled to announce the performers that will take the stage during its official two-week re-opening celebration in Athens, Ga. beginning Monday, August 1 (sorry, that was yesterday) through Saturday, August 13, 2011.

That’s right UGA students, it’s time to get back to rockin’ out. The two week celebration will feature a ridiculous amount of artists from all genres, including: The Glands with Madeline; Chuck Leavell and Friends with SNAP!; Kenosha Kid; Blackberry Smoke; RJD2; J. Roddy Watson and the Business; Don Chambers; Goat; Bela Fleck and the Flecktones; Big Boi; Drive By Truckers; and Gillian Welch. Additional artists and further details will be announced in the coming weeks. Tickets range from $10 to $30 and are available online at www.georgiatheatre.com.

“As construction nears completion we can feel Athens and the Southeastern music community getting excited with us.  We can’t wait to unveil what we believe will be he finest music venue of our size in the region,” says Wilmot Greene, co-owner of the Georgia Theatre.

“It’s exciting to give back to the people and community that has been so supportive of us. The light at the end of the tunnel is becoming blinding and it looks glorious!,” adds Scott Orvold, co-owner and talent buyer for the historic venue.

So, UGA socialites, get to raging! And stay tuned for our own coverage of one of these very special shows!
