Socialite Approved Releases (October 24th – October 28th, 2011)

The Rum Diary (10/28/11)

Johnny Depp is back in a Hunter S. Thompson adaptation for more Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll. If you haven’t seen Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas at this point in your college career, you should probably pack up a bowl and pull up your NetFlix right now. If you have, you know what you’re in for when a Hunter S. Thompson novel is adapted to film and Johnny Depp stars as the man himself. The movie follows an American Journalist who makes the exodus to Puerto Rico during the 1950’s to work for a newspaper, back when Puerto Rico was the place American’s went to live like kings, knee deep in alcohol, sex, and full-frontal hedonism. Needless to say, it’s going to be a struggle. Expect awesome acting and Fear and Loathing style chaos, taken to the next level.

In Time (10/28/11)

Justin Timberlake makes his 5th appearance in a feature film in the last 2 years, and this time in the lead role. Judging by his recent track record, I’d see this for Justin alone, and you dudes understand how un-gay that statement is. In Time takes place in a future where aging stops at 25. Once you reach that point you need to literally buy, steal or inherit more time to stay alive. Essentially, someone heard the phrase “Time = Money” and just ran with it. Timberlake’s character lives 1 minute at a time, the real life equivalent of spending your last $20 on cigarettes and beer, the day before you get your paycheck. Somehow however, he gets access to the world of the time wealthy, and after witnessing the rampant corruption, teams up with Amanda Seyfried to take the system down. Original? Not really. Cool? We’ll see.
