4 Ideas for a High Tech Wedding

Most people have some idea of what they want for their wedding day. Some may plan more than others, but when it comes down to it, we all have opinions about the details of the big day. And for those who are particularly interested in pop, pizzazz, or pure awesomeness, making the wedding and reception high tech can be the best way to go.

1. #Hashtag

No, I’m not kidding. The popular way of linking Twitter messages and Instagram pictures has now come to the world of weddings. Basically, a couple creates a custom word or phrase for their reception, and when guests Tweet or Instagram, they make sure to put the hashtag (i.e. #smithjonesrwedding), so that all the other guests can see their posts. Sounds crazy, but maybe if the guests know there is a custom hashtag for the ceremony and reception, they won’t feel so bad about being on their phones.

2. iPads

Instead of using a traditional guest book, some folks are now using iPads. There are specialty apps (of course, there’s an app for that) that allow people to write notes and take photos; they essentially create a wedding album / guest book on the fly. Another cool trend I saw (on the complete opposite end of the spectrum, some people are having guests type their notes on an old-fashioned vintage typewriters).

3. Live streaming

There are always people who are invited that can’t make it to the wedding, unfortunately. Whether it’s a destination wedding (Bahamas wedding packages, anyone?) or other travel restrictions for certain guests, if they can access a computer and internet, they can access the wedding. This might involve some pretty tricky camera work, but it’s definitely doable.

4. LED lights

Lighting is an important part of the ceremony and the reception, but LEDs are now making their way to the outfits as well. It’s true – dresses and tuxedos can use these lights in their design to add some extra pop to the wedding. This lighting option will cost extra, of course, but the wow-factor is definitely a plus. The lights can be just on the bride and/or groom, or incorporated into all of the wedding party participants, or any combination thereof. Some might think these look tacky, but the lights can be a great addition to any wedding. Putting lights in the bouquet or other flower arrangements can be really special as well, especially if the wedding or reception takes place at night.
