Most Anticipated Video Games of 2011

Sometimes college can get boring. When you’re sick of endless parties and need a break from socializing, then you retreat into the dark cave of your dorm room and entertain yourself for a good week or so. And what is better for entertaining than video games? If you’re feeling the need to hibernate for a few days, then check out these upcoming releases from the world of gaming.

Mortal Kombat

This is a personal favorite of mine. After a couple of flops throughout the year, I am happy to see the game go back to its roots. Since the release of Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, many would say the series has gone in a downward spiral. The game went 3D and the characters just got weird. With the release of the new game, they will be bringing back the old environments and what looks like not adding characters beyond the third installment of the game. With original fatalities and a new tag team option, this will have gamers asking for more.

Marvel Vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds

After years of speculation, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 was finally announced this past year. The first two games were major arcade hits. I even remember wanting to go to the arcade to play the game even if it meant waiting in a long line. The game will have many new characters like Viewtiful Joe and Phoenix. The characters will also be in 3D – making the gameplay that much better. There is no way they can mess this game up even if they tried. If you enjoyed the first two games, there is no doubt this game will be addicting.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

The Legend of Zelda series hasn’t had a flop through its 19 game span and this game won’t change that. The game will be a prequel to the biggest game of the series – The Ocarina of Time. I don’t know how they plan on doing this but it will be interesting to see. Link has been through a lot of adventures up to this point so it will be interesting to see where the plot goes from here.

Gears of War 3

Okay, I’m not going to lie, I have only played the first version, mainly because I’m not into the whole third-person shooter thing – It gives me a headache. However, this game looks so good I will be willing to play the second one to understand what is going on in the third installment. Gears of War 3 will introduce a four-player co-op campaign and servers that will make multi-player work much smoother. There isn’t much other information out than that, but holding out will only have gamers more excited when it is released.

Nintendo 3DS

Nintendo has been coming up with multiple ways of revolutionizing portable video game entertainment. However, they have been known to roll out flops; Some advancements were so minuscule that they didn’t appeal to gamers as much as they thought it would. Well, they are bring out a heavy hitter with the 3DS. It is a Nintendo DS that doesn’t require 3-D glasses to see images in 3D. This will not only revolutionize portable gaming, but gaming all together. There is nothing more to about this product except that it will be worth the price hike.
