There are many ways to spend time on campus.  With over 60 organizations at Buff State ranging from social to media, there is something out there for everyone. It seems that this year, the underclassmen aren’t too enthused about coming out of their dorms and going to explore.

I have some tips that may be able to help you out for next year. For one, find out what you like and where your niche is at. The next thing you can do is talk to your professors, staff and personnel to see what you might do to get involved. Bengal Pause is defnintely something you should not miss on Thursdays (from 12:15 to 1:40) because that’s when everyone comes out and set tables to give you-the student a chance to learn more about the organization. Bengal Pause is also a great way to find out about upcoming events and attend organizations General Interest meetings in the Student Union.  By getting involved with these student organizations, not only can you go and get involved by being part of the Executive Board and make a difference but it also serves as an opportunity to exhibit leadership qualities and make you stand out at the same time.  One major advantage of becoming involved in either student organizations or sports, you develop a close relatinship with staff and faculty and build an extensive network. Best thing is that you can meet new people and make friends that share the same interest or liking in something.

As a person who is involved in several student organizations, its obvious that being active means a good amount of weight and experience credit on your resume. You have that advantage over the next person who decided to be a couch potato and not do anything produxtive for their college years. Since college is about preparing on for the real world, inquire about an internship (especially one in your major) so that you can better prepare yourself.

Here’s one more reson to get involved. You are a student that pays almost two hundred dollars for a mandatory student activity fee. These funds is what helps make these organizations function and give you the programming that they give. You might as well gets your money’s worth and make your voice heard at the same time. This allows for you to represent the student body while at the same time making a deifference for the better of the organization.

Now that I gave you some tips, that will hopefully  resonate in your mind, there should no reason or excuse to not have at least one type of involvement or activity to talk about or reflect on. It is said that college is the best years of your life, so make the best of it and do something.
