The Campus Socialite Fictional Athlete Hall of Fame

As you may have heard, the one and only Sylvester Stallone was among the recent inductees into the Boxing Hall of Fame because of his influential role, Rocky Balboa, in the Rocky franchise. On this momentous occasion, your friends here at The Campus Socialite have decided to announce the creation of The Campus Socialite Fictional Athlete Hall of Fame. After combing the databases, watching lots of movies and enduring a complex voting process, we have decided to induct a six member inaugural class. So, without further ado, you’re “The Campus Socialite Fictional Athlete Hall of Fame” class of 2010.

Happy Gilmore – (Happy Gilmore, 1996)

Golfer

Happy Gilmore was an aspiring hockey player with a wicked slap shot. One day while packing up his grandmother’s house (she was being evicted), he swung a golf club for the first time. Gilmore’s unique approach and unorthodox swing managed to propel the ball further than any golfer has ever hit (up to 500 yards with driver). He went on to win The Masters in his first season on the tour and has never looked back. Eight green jackets and 16 majors later, Happy is now battling with Tiger Woods to catch Jack Nicklaus’ all-time majors’ record of 18. Happy’s grandmother now owns the biggest private home in Florida, built in Jupiter right next to Tiger Woods’ monstrous estate.

Charlie Conway – (Mighty Ducks 1,2,3)

Forward Mighty Ducks, Team USA, Washington Capitals

Conway was first discovered in 1992 as the captain of the Mighty Ducks hockey team coached by Gordon Bombay. The Ducks won multiple state titles and eventually represented the USA in the under 16 international competition. They brought home gold in that tournament largely due to the captains “Flying V” formation and his famous “Triple Dekes”. Some thought these seemingly childish tricks wouldn’t work on the NHL level. Boy were they wrong, Conway has now been with the Washington Capitals as their captain for 9 All-star seasons. He plays alongside Alexander Ovechkin to form the most dangerous one-two punch in hockey history. They have won four Stanley Cups and Charlie has now become the first player-politician in athletic history. He is simultaneously playing for the Capital and is the acting governor of Minnesota.

Ricky Bobby – (Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, 2006)

Nascar Driver, owner Bobby Motorsports

Ricky Bobby was born to “Go Fast!”. Right before his father, Reese, decided to leave his family behind he told Ricky one last thing “If you ain’t first, you’re last”. This motto stuck with Ricky Bobby throughout his rise to the top of the Nascar circuit. Bobby won five consecutive cup championships and has now started his own racing team, Bobby Motorsports. His first three drivers are Jeff Gordon, Jimmy Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr. These titans of the sport decided to come to Bobby Motorsports after a month-long media frenzy. “The Decision” was aired on ESPN and all three drivers announced they were “taking their talents to Bobby”. Time will tell if this move will work as the three drivers have yet to win a race since teaming up and Johnson was seen crying on the phone with his mother after the last race.

Rick “Wild Thing” Vaughn – (Major League 1,2,3)

Pitcher Cleveland Indians

Wild Thing burst on the scene in the 1989 Major League 1. He was fresh of incarceration and came in as a relief pitcher for the Cleveland Indians. His crazy style earned him his nickname and caused an up and down career for Wild Thing. Many suspensions, many women and many strikeouts later, Vaughn is a five time World Series Champion. He retired in 2007 and has now become the manager for the Riker’s Island Prison team. He was arrested in 2008 and sentenced to life for throwing a ball at an umpire from the stands during an Indians game. The ball struck the umpire in the skull.

Becky “Icebox” O’Shea – (Little Giants, 1994)

Running Back Little Giants, New York Giants

Icebox was cut from the “Pee-wee Cowboys” back in ’94. Her father was so upset that he decided to start a second team in town, the Little Giants. Icebox led this group of misfits to an upset of the “Cowboys” and the right to represent the town in the Pee-wee Championships. The Little Giants went on to win the national tournament and Icebox gained instant notoriety. After attending the University of Miami as the first female running back in college football history she was drafted number 1 overall by the New York Giants in the 2006 NFL Draft. She has now led the NFL in rushing three consecutive seasons and shattered Jim Brown’s rushing record this season amassing an astonishing 3,400 yards and 30 touchdowns!

Edwina “Eddie” Franklin – (Eddie, 1996)

Coach New York Knicks

A die hard New York Knicks fan who never missed a game, Eddie was called down to the court during a halftime contest and ended up making a free throw to become the honorary coach for the second half. The limousine driver quickly showed her fiery nature and led the Knicks to a victory. Fifteen seasons later, Eddie was the winningest coach in NBA history, claiming five consecutive NBA titles for her hometown Knicks. Eddie now acts as an advisor to the team and has retired to a small town on Long Island although she can still be seen courtside at every Knicks home game.
