What Your First Date Movie Says About Your Relationship

The first date is always, by far, the hardest date.  It’s awkward, claustrophobic, and both parties are desperately trying to impress the other without looking like they are trying. This is why the movie date has become a classic. It allows for you to do something together without having to stare at each other or actually say anything. It’s an American classic, but it shouldn’t be approached lightly. The first movie a couple sees together sets the pace for the rest of the relationship, and could be potentially disastrous. Here is a list of movies currently in theaters and what seeing them on a first date potentially means for the rest of your relationship.

The Green Hornet

A new couple going to see The Green Hornet would probably be somewhat nerdy. They have similar interests in that they enjoy sitting through movies that will be slightly entertaining, yet mostly hipster since it’s based on an old, stuffty television show. Other movies these couples should watch together include Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind or The Science of Sleep. This couple will probably last…but it doesn’t mean other couples will be dying to go on a double date with them.

Black Swan

If you’re going to see Black Swan, you’re in for a pretty decent relationship. You’re both probably sort of interesting, and enjoy other movies like The Wrestler and The Fountain. Even so, the two of you may be slightly pretentious, which means eventually you will begin fighting and annoying one another. The good thing about Black Swan is, you may potentially have some hot sex after getting riled up by the lesbian scene between Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman.

Little Fockers or Yogi Bear

If this is the first movie you’re seeing as a couple, I’m not convinced the two of you aren’t actually 8-year-olds. If you’re actually sort of adults, then you probably met at a bar and drunkenly hooked up and have no substance between the two of you. This relationship will probably bring about some kind of crippling drug addiction since you can’t be sober and enjoy something like Yogi Bear or Little Fockers. The relationship will probably work out, but it doesn’t mean I support the two of you.

No Strings Attached

If you’re seeing this movie on your first date, chances are, you will never have a substantial relationship. This movie is about a NO STRINGS ATTACHED relationship. See the problem here? Prepare to have tons of really hot, no strings attached sex that you will never regret. But also be prepared to never introduce this girl to your mom. It’s just not going to happen.

Blue Valentine

If you haven’t heard of Blue Valentine, it’s probably the most realistic depiction of a relationship out of most I’ve seen. The film stars Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams, tracing their relationship from start to end. It’s full of tears, sadness, love, and the tragedies of real-life relationships. See this movie if you want to have no hope for your future relationships, or if you just loved The Notebook. Chances are, you will not date whoever you see this movie with since it will leave you with a general loathing of relationships.
